The EWGGD has launched the website for its 14th European Working Group on Gaucher Disease Congress (EWGGD 2020) to be held from 24-27 May, 2019 in Leiden, The Netherlands.
It was 25 years ago when the EWGGD organised its first congress in Trieste, after being founded in 1993 upon the initiative of Professor Joseph Tager, Professor Rob Goudsmit and myself. The society has prospered since thanks to the efforts of many in the international Gaucher community.
The biennial EWGGD symposium is the only international congress dedicated to Gaucher disease in all its aspects with the objective of sharing information on the latest advances and studies on this rare disease including unpublished results.
An important asset of the conference is the participation of the international patients’ association. The International Gaucher Alliance IGA (formally the European Gaucher Alliance) is the umbrella organisation for over 50 patient groups from around the world. At past symposia, the meeting of scientists and working together with patient representatives has proven to be a major catalyst for exchanges between professionals and patients and for further studies.
The upcoming meeting hopes to foster further interactions and active participation from all attendees to pave the way for future collaborations.
The scientific programme is currently being prepared; it will accommodate the work from all teams as posters or oral presentations. We encourage everyone from the Gaucher field to submit their research. The deadline for abstract submission is on March 16th, 2020.
The congress promises to be stimulating with many developments to report and challenges to consider; the collaborations that will develop will as continuously prove to be vital in working towards addressing patient’s needs.
We look forward to seeing you in Leiden as a participant.
