A Zoom meeting was held for our members on Friday 1 May to share best practice regarding home therapy, hosted by Fernanda Torquati and Kate Theochari who have both been active in their home countries of Italy and Greece respectively in lobbying their governments to authorise intravenous home therapy.
You can watch the webinar here
During the webinar a number of questions were asked and these have been collated and a summary can be found here.
The EWGGD has recommended home treatment wherever it is possible. Given the evolution of the pandemic and the burdens linked to administration under medical supervision, we strongly encourage the implementation of home treatment for Gaucher patients, to enable them to continue treatment in a safe environment with the aim to implement on a long - term basis for patients that would like to continue. The IGA has written a letter patient groups can use to recommend home treatment - download it here
Fernanda Torquati has also shared with us a copy of the recommendations of the Scientific Committee of the Italian Gaucher Association for the management of enzyme replacement therapy (ERT) during the COVID 19 emergency download here and the Italian Drug Agency extraordinary recommendations made for the administration of medication for ERT in Italy download here which she referred to during the webinar.
