IGA Youth Council

The International Gaucher Alliance has long been a beacon of hope and support for those affected by Gaucher disease. Recently, a new initiative of the IGA, the Youth Council, was established with the mission to be the global voice for young people living with Gaucher disease.

The idea for the Youth Council was born at the most recent Go with Gaucher conference in Istanbul, Türkiye (November 2023). This event brought together young Gaucher patients from around the world, ages 18-30. The meeting was highly productive and inspiring, leading to the
creation of a dedicated Youth Council to continue advocating for young people with all types of Gaucher disease.

The Youth Council functions as an advisory body to the IGA, providing youth perspectives and recommendations on matters related to Gaucher Disease. Key objectives include advocacy and empowerment, collaboration and community building, and leadership development.

Working closely with the IGA, the Youth Council aims to keep the momentum going, meeting regularly to share experiences and drive awareness. The council is composed of nine founding members, representing eight countries: USA, India, Argentina, Türkiye, Spain, Colombia, Germany, and Canada. Through this diverse representation, the Youth Council ensures a truly global perspective in their advocacy efforts.
